Newest information on the 2018 National Field Trial
In the early 1950s, a group of dedicated Vizsla fanciers organized the Magyar Vizsla Club, later to be renamed the Vizsla Club of America. Since 1953, the club's newsletter, the Vizsla News, has helped inform and connect Vizsla lovers. In 1960, the Vizsla was the 115th breed to be formally recognized by the American Kennel Club.
Each year the VCA sponsors national events that include:
Nationwide, 35 regional Vizsla clubs host many field trials, shows, fun days, AKC hunt tests, and obedience, rally and agility trials.
The Vizsla is noted for its versatility, and VCA actively promotes the versatile nature of the breed. Introduced in 1981, the VCA's Versatility Certificate program recognizes those Vizslas that have met specific standards in field, conformation and obedience. Learn more about the Versatility Certificate.
In 2000, the VCA Board of Directors established the Vizsla Club of America Welfare Foundation (VCA WF) to provide an organized and recognized, charitable structure with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, under which health and welfare for the pure-bred vizsla, including rescue and education, can be pursued. Learn more about the VCA Welfare Foundation.
The VCA WF partners with other breed clubs through the AKC Canine Health Foundation to sponsor health research, specifically epilepsy, lymphoma, hemangiosarcoma and brucella. In 2008, the VCA WF collected more than 2,500 owner-completed health surveys to document current health trends for the vizsla. The survey report is available at [link], and additional analysis of the data is in progress. Further, an active rescue program coordinates the efforts of 33 regional rescue coordinators to help re-home Vizslas in need.
